Brennin Hunt Is an up and coming singer/songwriter origionally hailing from Oklahoma. After toiling in obscurity for the last few years, writing for other artists and just paying his dues in general, he’s now made the move to Nashville, where Brennin is working on a new batch of songs and creating a buzz with everyone that hears his music. But as a million others know, the path to stardom is rough. Here’s a look at a great new artist who’s cd’s you may someday soon be lining up to buy.

Profile

Hometown : Harrah, Oklahoma

Influences : The Eagles, Don Henley, Fleetwood Mac, Jackson Browne, Eric Clapton

Genre/sounds like: Pop/Rock

Bio: Grew up in a family of music. Early on I had interest in playing drums. Parents got me a drum set and later on my Grandmother gave me my Dad's 70s Epiphone acoustic guitar and I bought a Mel Bays chord book and taught myself how to play. My interest imediately was guitar. Around the same time I would fool around on this old player piano my parents had in their bedroom. Starting writing my own songs. Mostly gospel tunes. I had a band called Next Level Band in High School. We played random gigs around the Oklahoma City area. Recorded my first record "Jean's House" in 2003. It was my first experience in a studio. It was a great experience. I learned a lot. Around the time "Jean's House" was pressed I took my first professional job with christian recording artist Jami Smith playing electric guitar and singing bgvs. During the first year with Jami I was writing new material for a new record. I met Sony writer Dameon Aranda of the band Aranda and we began writing together. He also helped on the production of my second record "Singles". Since the release of "Singles" I have opened for a few major acts, Bellamy Brothers, Lee Ann Womack, and coming in June and July, Tracey Lawrence and Charlie Daniels. I am currently playing with Jami Smith and recording new material.

Current/upcoming release(s): CURRENT "Singles" EP 2006,  UPCOMING "Singles" LP (6 new songs)

The Interview

63C:You Recently Made the Move to Nashville. Why the change of scenery?

BH: I found a manager here who believes in my music.

63C: You’ve gotten experience writing songs for other musicians, do you enjoy the creative process more than the performing process?

BH: It's like apples and oranges. I love both.

63C:  If you were going to be compared to another artist, who do you think the most legitimate comparison would be?

BH: hmmm.... I really don't know. My wife
Kelly says "Brennin doesn't sound like anybody." "But you can definitely hear all of his influences in the STYLE of his music." "As for the SOUND, he is bringing something new to the industry."

(she loves me) :)

63C:  Right now, between Gavin Degraw, Josh Kelley, Jack Johnson, Greg Laswell, John Mayer & Etc... there seems to be a huge resurgence of the "singer/songwriter" why do you think that is?

BH: They write great songs that appeal to a wide range of age groups. The Jackson Brownes will always sell.

63C: Alot of established bands today are touring with ticket prices that sometimes fly past $200. Do you think this is the future of concerts or will fans rebel?

BH: I am not sure. I think fans should rebel, but if Michael Jackson sold a front row ticket for $3,000 I would definately find a way to buy it. I think people are always going to pay a lot of money for artist that they love. I just wish everyone was like Pearl Jam, keeping it around $50.

63C:  Jack Johnson, sings about & works heavily with the enviroment, Bright Eyes obsesses about politics. Is there a cause you feel strongly enough to write or sing about?

BH: Poverty. I recently wrote a song with my bass player, Chad Roper, titled "The Story of John Doe". The song tells the story of a homeless man who froze to death under an overpass in south
Oklahoma City during the "January North American Ice Storm of 2007". The storm claimed the lives of 87 Americans, mostly homeless. There were nowhere for most of them to go due to shelters being full. The story is told from the postmortem perspective of this perticular man. All he wants is to be validated as a human being. I am currently recording this track.

63C: You List The Eagles & Don Henley as influences. What is it about the eagles that resonates for you?

BH: Their main concern is the music. They haven't ever used gimmicks to sell their records or sell out tours. People have always slammed them for sounding too perfect or for loitering on stage, yet they seem to sell the most records and tickets out of any American band. It's because they write amazing songs and can sing better than anyone else. The Eagles and Don Henley's songs are truly the only songs that take me to a fantasy land. I feel like I can escape reality when I listen to their music. It's beautiful!

63C: you mention you're an internet junkie. so what's your poison? Gaming, MySpace, YouTube??

BH: All of the Above + ebay

63C: What producer would you like to work with?

BH: Bill Szymczyk

63C: Who would you like to co-write a song with?

BH: Jackson Browne

63C: Who is your dream female duet partner?

BH: Bonnie Raitt

63C: If you were sent to desserted Island and could only bring 5 cds, what 5 cds would bring?

BH: Hotel California - Eagles, Thriller - Michael Jackson, Euphoria Morning - Chris Cornell, Mercury Falling - Sting, Nick of Time - Bonnie Raitt

63C: Seems like everyone is doing cover songs and sampling older songs - do you think everything has been done musically and now we are just recycling music?

BH: Progressions and melodies have been taken for quite some time now. It's all about absorbing your influences and creating a voice and style of your own. So in a way, yes we are recycling music.

63C: would you ever consider starting a full fledged band or is the solo route really what interests you?

BH: I was in a band, but I was doing all the work as far as creating the songs. I wouldn't be aposed to making a band with people who contribute (write, sing, create).

63C: Aren't you & the members of Hinder from the same town?

BH: We are. I hope to represent
Oklahoma in a more respectful manner. Produce better material as well. :) I proudly say Vince Gill is from Oklahoma!
