A Super Power And Its “No Win Wars.”
This country is supposed to be the leading nation in the
world, both
militarily and as a free nation. We have the best technology and the finest
fighting men and women in the
world.
The problem with our leadership is they’ve relied on our present day weaponry
to wage war with enemies who have nothing and fight with more primitive means
e.g. digging miles and miles of tunnels to hide from their adversary.
George Bush was way off base when he stated on t.v. awhile ago
Russian President Putin is our friend, he is in fact, both friend and ally to
China, North Korea and Iran. If our leaders decide to jump on Russia’s allies
indiscriminately because Geo W. says do it, I’m the boss, we may have bought
off more than we can chew. Whose side do you think Putin will back? A look at
our first No Win War, Korea.
The Korean War, then called a
Police Action started on 6/25/50 and concluded on 7/27/53. President Truman was
our Commander in Chief until he lost his seat to Dwight Eisenhower in ’53. It doesn’t look as though either of
them knew anything about gorilla warfare, because those little devious devils
kept dodging what we thought was the inevitable. But everything was about to
change, thanks to Josef Stalin.
He sat in
Russia thinking about the bomb we dropped on Japan, wishing he could drop one on us. But, he was also
worried about the possibility of
North Korea losing and another chunk of Communism would go down the
tubes. He came up with a solution. Being he and the Chinese were already
trading partners, why not ask them to send some troops across the DMZ to help
his North Korean friends. He did and they complied with his wishes. The North
Korean forces and the Chinese ran us out of Dodge.
We had a total of 33,6866 battle
deaths, as well as a multitude of permanently injured, but it was our first No
Win War and wasn’t to be the last. Two Presidents were involved with the war
and it seems they had learned nothing about an enemy who fights with nothing
but his wits and a few Russian made rifles and a few Russian MIG’s .
Viet Nam was to be a much longer
migraine headache for our forces for over a decade. President Johnson and then
‘Tricky Dick’ Nixon were to have their hands full trying, and then failing to
make South Vietnam a Democratic Sovereignty.
The Viet Cong didn’t want to hear this
crap. They were determined to run us off and set up shop in Saigon, and as
history bears out, The did exactly that.
We
dropped millions of tons of bombs in the north, but for the most part, they hi
tthe earth and shook a few dishes in the tunnels the V.C. had dug. When we did
manage to do some damage, they came out, made repairs and ducked their heads
again. It must have been exasperating to our fighting men and woman.
There
were 58,209 battle related deaths in the Viet Nam conflict and coupled with the
Korean war losses of 33,686 battle related deaths, we have a total of 91,686 American lives lost so we could
have another “No Win War.”
Where
are we at in the Middle East? Iraq
is going to be another ‘No Win War,’ because there’s no one in the country we
can sit down with for either of us
to bargain with and there’s certainly no one in Iran to talk with and George W.
wants it his way, too.
No one
knows how things will turn out, but you can bet your bottom dollar, if our Commander in Chief doesn’t start
seeing the forest through the trees, and continues to start fighting with
Russias allies, we won’t be fighting just the stinking Arabs, we’ll most likely
be into World War III with Bush’s friend Putin.
END.
