Submission Guidelines
All submissions will be considered for publication on this site as long as they meet the following guidelines:
1. Poetry Submissions-Please no more than three submissions at a time unless requested. English only and please give your full name or pen name.
2. Fiction-Please limit short stories and fiction to one piece at a time. There is a 2500 word limit to all stories. Once again, English only and full name or pen name is required.
3. Artwork – Please no more than 3 pieces per submission. If we chose you to be a featured artist or cover artist we may ask for additional pieces.
In cases of Poetry, Fiction and Artwork, If your work has not been published on our site within 3 issues we will no longer keep it on file. Please feel free to submit again at any time. If you chose to submit your work somewhere else during this time, simply e-mail us to have your work removed from consideration. Due to the amount of submissions we receive, we can’t possibly send rejection letters to everyone not chosen. We will send you an e-mail confirming receipt of your work and we’ll send you an e-mail upon acceptance of your work. So if you haven’t gotten one of these and it’s been four months or more, you may want to consider submitting new work.
Please Single-Space all submissions. Skip the Fancy Fonts and Oversized Text. A pretty Font won't get you published any faster and we hate having to re-format submissions for the site. Also, please, please, please proofread and triple check your work. The version that you send to us will be the version published.
We've made it our goal to showcase the newest art and writing, the hottest talent and the overlooked underground artists. As such, we prefer only original work is submitted to the site. So if it's all over the web already, hold onto it and send us something new. We probably wouldn't find out, but you're not doing yourself or our readers any favors. thanks....
4. Articles, editorials and Rants- Please limit Articles to 1 at a time and try to send a variety. Article title and your full name or pen name is required. Racist, overtly Violent or graphic material will not be accepted.
5.Reviews- if you've read a book that's been published in the last two years or bought a CD that's been released in the last 6 months, feel free to send a review. Limit two reviews per submission. Must include full or pen name and be in English.
6. Emerging Artists - Have a new book or CD coming out? Want to plug it on 63C? here's what we need:
1. Title
2. Author
3. Type of release (book, e-book, CD)
4. Brief description
5. Publisher
6. Where to order
7. Contact info
We WILL NOT list your book in the emerging artists section without all of this info. Also, the book must be available on the release date of 63 Channels.
Example: your book doesn't come out till June 15th, 63C comes out June 1st. You are NOT eligible for "Emerging Artists" till the following issue.
Where to Send:
-Send all submissions directly to Submissions@63Channels.com
Please Put "submission" in the Subject header, or it may be deleted.
- When you submit to 63C you will be added to the mailing list. The mailing list is private and you will only receive e-mails concerning 63Channels. You may opt out of this at any time. Typically you will receive 8-10 e-mails per year.
-When you submit, please add Submissions@63channels to your address book. We’ve had several instances where people never received their acceptance letters and never new they were published because the e-mails and newsletter had been sent to their junk folder.
Frequently Asked Questions
Whats up with publishing rights?
When you submit to 63 channels you authorize one time publishing rights for the issue your work has been accepted for. We do not reprint your work in any other location or any other issue without your consent. Concerning print issues, your work will once again only be used for the issue you have been accepted for and will not be reprinted in any other issue or location. The one main difference would be that your work in the print issue will be available till the issue is discontinued, where as in the online issue your work is removed from the site in 2 months, after your issue has been replaced with a new one. We may occasionally ask to archive your work if you are a featured writer, but it is not required and you can have your archive removed at any time by requesting.
Do you Pay for submissions?
No. In case you don't know by now, 63channels has not made a single penny's profit in the 6 years we've existed. There is no company or small press behind the name, just one man, a handfull of volunteers and you, the people that submit. If we were to ever sell advertising or raise prices on products above production costs, we would gladly pay for submissions, but for now, sorry. I'll continue to be a horrible businessman, and you'll continue to be a starving artist.
In the case of the print magazine, we literally price the magazine at the cost of production, and in the case of the calendar all profits go to The Art Conspiracy, a online arts community where i usually find all of the artists for the calendar.
What should I expect From the submission process??
Because 63 channels is updated bi-monthly, it may take a few weeks before you receive a response. If you are chosen to be featured on the site, you will be expected to provide us with a short bio, a link to any other websites you have your work on, and if possible a picture. All rights to your work belong solely to you, and we are simply displaying it. If you miss the cut off for the upcoming issue, your work will be kept on file and considered for the following issue, so don't give up!
What happens when my time as Featured contributor is up???
If you are a Featured Writer, your work will be added to the Archives section and will be searchable by anyone that visits the site. If you want to be removed from the site after your time is up, you must submit an E-mail requesting to be removed. Unfortunately we just don't have the space to archive columnists or artists. Also, once you have been a featured artist, Featured writer or Featured fiction contributor, there is a 1 issue waiting period until you can be eligible to grace our e-zine again. This only goes for the three specific spots listed, you may continue to submit work as a columnist, reviewer, or general writing/poetry contributor.
How do I get my work in the 63 Channels store?
The 63 Channels store is a way for me to promote my site and give some of my favorite artists some extra exposure. Due to the fact that this is for the benefit of this site, all art used on merchandise will have a small 63 channels logo on either the top or bottom of this piece. Due to the fact that I usually feature my own poetry on merchandise, the only submissions I Will accept are artwork, graphic design and logos. Payment based on store profits will be discussed privately with selected artists.
Can I plug my own site on 63 Channels?
Sure! You can submit a text address and description to be displayed on the links page. In order to do this you will need to put a 63 Channels link up on your site in a relatively easy to find location
